Dental and maxillofacial radiography in Geneva
We use dental radiology as an essential diagnostic tool. Through this technology, we visualize the internal structures of your teeth and jaws. With advanced technologies such as CBCT, cephalometric radiography, OPT, and periapical X-rays, we diagnose precisely. Then, we plan effective treatments to ensure your oral health.
Why are dental X-rays important?
Dental X-rays provide detailed images of teeth, bones, and surrounding soft tissues. They are indispensable for detecting problems invisible to the naked eye. For example, they reveal hidden cavities, infections, cysts, bone fractures, and dental anomalies. They also allow us to plan complex treatments. Indeed, they are crucial for dental implants, wisdom teeth extractions, and orthodontic treatments.
The different types of dental X-rays available at Névé dental clinic
CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography):
- Description: We use CBCT to obtain detailed three-dimensional images of teeth, jaws, and facial structures.
- Uses: We use it to plan dental implants. Additionally, we use it to evaluate impacted teeth, perform orthognathic surgeries, and detect complex dental pathologies.
- Advantages: CBCT offers a complete and precise view. Thus, we reduce risks and improve the outcomes of surgical and orthodontic interventions.
Cephalometric radiography:
- Description: Cephalometric radiography, or lateral skull radiography, captures side images of the skull, including soft tissues and bone structures.
- Uses: We mainly use it in orthodontics. It helps us analyze the growth and development of the jaws, plan orthodontic treatments, and evaluate occlusal relationships.
- Advantages: It allows a detailed analysis of the proportions and relationships between the teeth and jaws. Consequently, it facilitates precise and personalized orthodontic treatment.
OPT (Orthopantomogram):
- Description: The orthopantomogram is a panoramic X-ray that shows a complete view of the jaws, teeth, sinuses, and temporomandibular joint.
- Uses: We use it for the general evaluation of oral health. It also allows the detection of cavities, cysts, bone fractures, and the planning of dental extractions and implants.
- Advantages: It provides an overview of the oral structure in a single image. Thus, we can facilitate a comprehensive diagnosis and effective treatment planning.
Periapical X-ray:
- Description: The periapical X-ray focuses on one or more specific teeth, showing precise details of the roots and surrounding bone.
- Uses: We use it to detect deep cavities, infections, abscesses. Additionally, we evaluate the condition of dental restorations and roots after endodontic treatment.
- Advantages: It offers a precise and detailed image of problematic areas. Consequently, we can perform targeted diagnosis and precise treatment.
How we perform a dental X-ray:
Preparation: Before the X-ray, we invite you to remove any metal objects (jewelry, glasses) that could interfere with the image.
Positioning: We position you correctly according to the type of X-ray required. For CBCT and OPT, you are standing or sitting. For periapical X-rays, you are generally sitting.
Image capture: The X-ray is taken quickly, usually within a few seconds to a minute. Our modern equipment minimizes radiation exposure while ensuring high-quality images.
Analysis: Once the images are taken, they are immediately available for analysis by your dentist. Then, we discuss the results and treatment recommendations with you.
