Dental implant
Replacement of a tooth with an artificial root
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial titanium root used to replace a missing tooth.
We insert this artificial titanium or zirconia root into the jawbone to serve as a solid foundation.
At the Névé Dental Clinic, we use Straumann dental implants, a premium Swiss brand made of commercially pure titanium.
After placing the implant, the bone heals, and the bone cells bond with the implant. This process, called osseointegration, takes about three months.
Steps for Placing an Implant:
- The pre-implant consultation is essential for analyzing your case.
The implantologist examines your medical history, conducts a clinical examination, and assesses your risk factors. Then, they perform a 3D radiographic examination (cone beam) to evaluate the bone volume necessary for the placement of the dental implant.
In case of insufficient bone, the implantologist may decide to perform a bone graft. These procedures are often simple, well-mastered, and have high success rates.
In certain conditions, the implantologist may opt for immediate loading. They extract your teeth, place the implants, and immediately fit a provisional prosthesis in the same session.
- The dental implant procedure
We will settle you in a room dedicated to surgery, taking all necessary precautions for your comfort and safety.
We will administer local anesthesia, starting with the application of a gel, followed by an injection, similar to a traditional dental treatment. Upon request, we can also perform deep sedation.
The procedure lasts about 20 minutes per implant. You will not feel any pain during the procedure.
After the placement of posterior dental implants, you will leave the office with a small protective screw on the implant, which is level with your gum. For aesthetic implants, we generally place a prosthesis with immediate loading.
We will remove the stitches 15 days later.
- Control of the osseointegration of the implant and prosthesis
The implantologist checks, after 3 months, that the bone has properly bonded to the implant. Then, an impression is taken. The dental implant then receives an intermediate piece called a prosthetic abutment, which serves as a support for a crown, a bridge, or a removable prosthesis.
- Maintenance of dental implants
You will need to schedule maintenance appointments to maintain the health of your implant and avoid peri-implantitis. Typically, these appointments are scheduled every 6 months.
What are the main advantages of a dental implant?
- It restores function and aesthetics,
- It preserves the bone integrity of the jaw, unlike removable dentures,
- It preserves the integrity of the surrounding healthy teeth, unlike bridges,
- It maintains the balance of the jaws, There are few contraindications for implant placement, Implant surgery is minimally invasive, quick, and painless,
- It has a very high long-term success rate (over 90% at 15 years).
How much does a dental implant cost?
For a dental implant with a ceramic crown, the fee is CHF 3488.-
The cost depends on the type of tooth, the volume of bone and gum tissue. Your oral surgeon will provide a quote during the first consultation.
