Dental implant prosthetics
Prosthetic reconstructions on dental implants
The implant prosthesis is the visible part that extends above the gum: these are the teeth that will allow you to function.
The prosthesis is fixed onto the dental implant through a connector or implant abutment.
They are made from various materials, most often ceramic with a framework of zirconia, titanium, or metals, depending on the chosen design.
They are custom-made in a prosthetics laboratory.
The different types of implant prostheses
- If you are missing a tooth:
The preferred solution is to place a dental implant with a crown on top, independent of the other teeth.
Single implant prosthesis
- If you are missing several teeth:
The preferred solution is the placement of multiple implants with a bridge; at least 2 dental implants are needed to replace 3 teeth.
- If you are missing all your teeth:
2 implant solutions are possible:
-
- 2 or 4 dental implants are placed, and a removable prosthesis that clips onto the implants with snap buttons is made. It is a resin appliance that can be put in and taken out.
Removable prosthesis on attachments
-
- 6 dental implants are placed (see 4) and a fixed screw-retained prosthesis is made. This is the preferred solution in cases of complete edentulism.
