Endodontic treatment
Treating the inside of the tooth: root canals in Geneva
Root canal treatments, also known as endodontic treatments, save severely damaged or infected teeth. These specialized procedures preserve your natural dentition, thus avoiding dental extractions and maintaining overall oral health.
What is an endodontic treatment?
A root canal treatment removes infection or inflammation from the dental pulp, the soft tissue inside the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp is damaged by deep decay, trauma, or a crack, endodontic treatment often saves the tooth.
How we perform a root canal treatment
Evaluation and diagnosis: We begin with a comprehensive assessment of your tooth, including X-rays to determine the extent of the infection or damage to the dental pulp.
Anesthesia: To ensure your comfort, we administer a local anesthetic to numb the area around the affected tooth.
Accessing the pulp: We make a small opening in the crown of the tooth to access the pulp chamber and root canals.
Cleaning and disinfecting: We carefully remove the infected or damaged pulp, then clean, disinfect, and shape the root canals to prepare them for filling.
Filling the canals: We then fill the root canals with a biocompatible material, usually gutta-percha, to seal the inside of the tooth and prevent any reinfection.
Restoring the tooth: After the root canal treatment, we restore the tooth with a temporary or permanent filling. In most cases, we place a dental crown to strengthen and protect the treated tooth.
By using these methods, we ensure the preservation and safeguarding of your teeth, helping you maintain optimal oral health
